Poughkeepsie building collapses; woman rescued
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — A woman who was trapped under debris after a vacant seven-story building partially collapsed onto another building in Poughkeepsie has been rescued.
Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison told the Poughkeepsie Journal the woman was conscious and alert. He said the woman had been trapped on the ground floor by a heavy piece of debris.
Rescuers had to work slowly to prevent injuring her.
A second person was pulled from the rubble and appeared to be conscious. That person's condition wasn't immediately known.
The partial collapse happened just after 4 p.m. Monday. Rolison said it was caused by a severe thunderstorm that had moved through the area.
Photos of the scene show a collapsed section of the building's roof. Bricks littered the street.
