CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities are searching part of the Hudson River for a New York man who went for a swim and disappeared while on a fishing trip.

Westchester County police spokesman Kieran O'Leary said the man vanished under the water about 150 yards from the shore off Croton Point Park. It happened around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Police and fire agencies have deployed divers, sonar, a helicopter and other means to scour the area for the 47-year-old man. Authorities haven't released his name. He is from New York City.

O'Leary said the man and two friends rented a cabin at the park Monday night and were fishing Tuesday when he decided to take a dip.

The police spokesman said the area is known for difficult currents, and swimming there isn't recommended.
