Police rescue 102 animals from New York farm

NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - Authorities in upstate New York have rescued 102 neglected animals from a farm as part of an animal cruelty investigation.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Department and the Susquehanna Animal Shelter took custody of the animals at the New Lisbon farm Saturday morning.

Authorities say there were 25 geese, 20 pigs, 13 chickens, 13 sheep, nine dogs, seven donkeys, seven rabbits, three ducks, one cat, two parakeets, a guinea hen, a pigeon and a tortoise.

Authorities say the animals were living in squalid conditions.

Police have arrested a man and a woman who own the property. They have been charged with animal cruelty and drug offenses. They are due in court later this month.

Through networking with the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department and the veterinarian who assisted with the rescue, many of the animals already have new homes.

The dogs and cat are being cared for at the shelter and their status is currently confidential.
