Suffolk police update on Nesconset fatal crash
Suffolk County police give an update after a construction worker was killed and two were injured in an early-morning crash in Nesconset.
NESCONSET, NY - A construction worker was killed and two were injured during a crash Monday in Nesconset, New York, police confirmed to FOX 5 NY.
A 26-year-old man from Ronkonkoma was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired, police said.
What we know:
Suffolk County police said three male construction workers were struck by a vehicle at around 6:43 a.m. at the intersection of Townline Road and Terry Road.
The driver blew a red light and appeared to be speeding, police said, before the vehicle left the roadway and went onto a sidewalk.

Construction worker killed, 2 hurt in Nesconset crash
A construction worker was killed and two were injured during a crash Monday in Nesconset, New York, police confirmed to FOX 5 NY. A male driver was in custody.
Officials said the vehicle proceeded to crash into a pole and a fence before striking the workers. Witnesses said the car was barreling down the road and may have been on the wrong side before it jumped the curb.
One of the workers was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where police said he was pronounced dead.
The two other men suffered serious leg injuries, according to police.
The male driver was taken into custody and charged with DWAI after a drug recognition expert determined he was under the influence, police said. He is suspected of using marijuana.
The area around the crash scene was closed to traffic due to the investigation.
