Modern-day milk man delivers
NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - A glass jug of milk delivered to your doorstep may seem like a relic of the past, but not in the suburbs of New York City. Hudson Milk Company delivers to communities in Westchester, Fairfield, and Putnam counties.
Thomas Rubino is the modern day milk man. His parents started the Hudson Milk Company 22 years ago but today the business has evolved beyond basic dairy. He calls it a farmers market on wheels: dairy, meat, chicken, eggs, and produce. They even deliver locally made peanut butter, maple syrup and fresh mozzarella.
Rubino says aside from a $5 delivery fee, they don't charge a premium. Hudson Milk now delivers to 1,000 customers each week, a number Rubino says continues to grow as consumers seek out local and fresher foods.
Longtime customers say they like the quality of the foods. And Rubino promises there is a difference between what he delivers and the products you can order online through other retailers or the ones you find at your local market.
There's something to be said for the nostalgia that comes from drinking milk out of the old-fashioned glass jug and the relationships that come with the regular door-step deliveries.
