Man arrested for molesting miniature horse

Police in Delaware have arrested a man in connection with the sexual assault of a miniature horse and burglary at the same barn several weeks later.

The Delaware State Police have arrested Adelio A. Guzman, 45, of Camden in connection with the case.

Officers say that on Tuesday, October 2, at approximately 9:37 p.m., troopers were called to Pony Track Road for a report of a shooting.  They found Guzman with gunshot wounds to his lower extremities.

Police say Guzman had gone into the barn without permission and an alarm activated.  The residents, a 73 year-old male and his 65 year-old wife, went to the barn and found Guzman.  The male resident shot Guzman.

During the investigation, police learned that Guzman had previously entered onto the property in August and sexually assaulted the couple's miniature horse.

Guzman turned himself in on Friday in connection with that case and was charged with animal cruelty, attempted animal cruelty and engaging in or trying to commit a sexual act involving an animal. He was also charged with burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief.  Guzman was arraigned and released on $11,750 bond.  It was not immediately known if he has a lawyer.

The case continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Criminal Investigative Unit.
