Dig deeper:

Two girls who were about 11 years old, fell about 15-20 feet from a Ferris wheel, and a third girl was able to hold onto the ride to avoid falling, law enforcement said.

Video captured by Eddie Jones showed law enforcement surrounding a girl who appeared to be lying on the Ferris wheel platform.

Later on in the video, the girl who managed to stay on the ride was seen climbing out with help from other adults.

Local perspective:

Ronald Brasseaux rode the same Ferris wheel the night before the girls fell and told local news media that the carts, which would normally swing as the wheel goes around, "got stuck."

"When the Ferris wheel goes, it’s supposed to, like the things (carts) are supposed to swing with it, but it got stuck, and so as it was going around, it was just like stuck at an angle when they flipped out of it," Brasseaux told WAFB.

What's next:

The Ferris wheel and a slide next to the ride will be shut down during an ongoing investigation being conducted by the state fire marshal, WAFB reported.
