The Ford Motor Company is recalling 140,201 pickup trucks for a wiring problem that poses a fire risk.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) officials said in a recall notice that damaged wires in these trucks can produce an electrical short and cause a fire in the "A-pillar area," boosting the risk of injury or a crash.

What Ford pickup trucks were recalled?

Why you should care:

Ford’s recall affects certain 2024-2026 Ranger pickup trucks. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the sun visor or "headliner wiring harnesses" might be "improperly positioned or have excessive tape thickness," which may damage wires.

Are repairs available for the recalled Ford trucks?

What you can do:

Owners of the recalled pickup trucks can take the vehicles to their local dealership for an inspection of the wiring for damage and update the body control module software. If needed, damaged wiring harnesses will be replaced, and repairs conducted will be free.

Repairs for the affected pickup trucks will happen in a phased action. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration officials said that Phase 1 will include 2025 model year vehicles.

Truck owners will be notified by mail the week of May 31. Phase 2 will include 2026 model year vehicles and Phase 3 will include 2024 model year trucks.

The NHTSA added that owners will receive letters in the mail in the week of June 29 for Phase 2 and the week of June 27 for Phase 3. And initial letters, informing owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed April 27, 2026.

More letters are expected to be mailed in August once a remedy is available and truck owners with questions about the recall can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S29.
