President Donald Trump and his family joined members of his administration Monday afternoon to watch the solar eclipse from the White House.

Live video from the event showed Trump walking out onto the portico overlooking the South Lawn, waving at people below, and then looking up at the sky without any protective eyewear. He pointed up and squinted.

Someone from off camera yelled, "Don't look!"

Trump then pulled eclipse glasses out of his jacket pocket and put them on.

The president, First Lady Melania Trump, and their son Baron, all wearing eye protection, watched for a few minutes.
