Daylight Saving Time controversy
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - The number one reason why New Yorkers hate Daylight Saving Time is because we lose an hour of sleep. But we are not alone. There is a proposed bill in California to get rid of it entirely. So why is time such an issue?
Creative writing professor Michael Downing, who wrote "Spring Forward: The Annual Madness of Daylight Saving Time," says there are reasons why we have Daylight Saving Time. And it's not because we are saving energy nor it is good for farmers. He says those are myths.
Health advocate Tom Emswiler is involved in a bill in Massachusetts that would create a commission to move states in New England to Atlantic time, which is an hour before the Eastern time zone, all year round instead of eight months of the year.
Emswiler points out that when we spring forward there are more heart attacks, more strokes, and more work places accidents.
But Downing said that moving New England to Nova Scotia time is "one of the worst ideas" we've come up with.
Doesn't matter what side of the clock you're on because come Sunday you better make sure you change that alarm clock.
