Crosses burned into lawn of New York mosque

CARLTON, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say someone has burned two crosses into the lawn of a western New York mosque.

The Orleans County Sheriff's Office says accelerant was poured on the lawn and ignited at the World Sufi Foundation Mosque in Carlton Thursday night.

Deputies are treating it as a bias crime.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations issued a statement saying that such incidents should be thoroughly investigated by police and the FBI and also repudiated by public and religious leaders.
