Cops: Prostitute brought her baby to appointment

AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) — A western New York woman has been arrested on prostitution and child endangerment charges after authorities say she brought her baby to an appointment with an escort client who turned out to be an undercover police officer.

State police and police in the Buffalo suburb of Amherst say 25-year-old Ciara Steffen of Tonawanda, New York, advertised escort services online. Officials say when Steffen showed up Thursday for an appointment at an Amherst hotel she had her 14-month-old child with her.

Police say she told the undercover officer she would leave the child in the bathroom while engaging in a sexual act. Officers say she was taken into custody after a brief struggle.

Steffan is being held Friday in the Erie County Jail. It couldn't be determined if she has a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
