Cold and snowy evening in New York area

Parts of the New York City area are facing a snowy afternoon and evening that could slow the ride home from work. The snow started as flurries in the early afternoon and picked up in the late afternoon.

A Winter Weather Advisory for New York City is in effect until Friday at 10 p.m. Up to 3 inches of snow could fall.

The New York City Emergency management issued a Travel Advisory for Friday night. It warns that roads may be slippery and to allow for additional travel time.

New York City and nearby suburbs should see about an inch of snow. Southern New Jersey is expected to get more snow.

In New Jersey, a winter weather advisory is in effect from Ocean County south from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Forecasters say accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible.

The National Weather Service says the rest of the state could see very light snow, which could cause roads to be slippery.
