Can casino reinvigorate Catskills economy?

Nestled in legendary Catskills, a new destination for big and small spenders alike: Resorts World Catskills, a casino that had a soft opening in Sullivan County last Thursday.

The $1.6 billion casino boasts some 2,100 slot machines and more than 150 live tables with games like roulette and craps. But more than bringing gambling to the region, it has also brought jobs to the Catskills and neighboring towns that are challenged economically.

Resorts World Catskills Executive VP Charlie Degliomini gave Fox 5 a tour of the facility that combines Vegas flair with Big Apple style. An 18-story hotel with more than 300 rooms adds to the appeal of getaways. Construction is still underway for plans that will include an indoor water park, a five-star restaurant, and an 18-hole gold course.

All of this is in Monticello, just about two hours north of New York City.

Resorts World Catskills is still hiring. The official grand opening will be held in May.
