CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. (AP) -- Westchester County police say they have recovered a body from the Hudson River near a park where a New York City man disappeared after going for a swim earlier this week.

Police spokesman Kieran O'Leary says a fisherman discovered the man's body about 1/2 mile from the shore shortly before 7 p.m. Friday. He says police have not yet positively identified the man, but the body fits the physical description of the missing swimmer.

Alex Desouza, 47, of Brooklyn, vanished Tuesday under the water about 150 yards from the shore off Croton Point Park.

Desouza and two friends had rented a cabin at the park Monday night and were fishing Tuesday when he decided to take a dip.

Officials say swimming in that area is prohibited.
