Adirondacks, Catskills ski areas open
WILMINGTON, N.Y. (AP) - State-run ski areas in upstate New York opened in time for the Thanksgiving weekend.
The Olympic Regional Development Authority said Whiteface Mountain outside Lake Placid cranked up its snowmaking and grooming machines and expected to have trails open Friday for skiers and snowboarders.
Gore Mountain in North Creek in Warren County opened with up to 23 trails available.
In the Catskills, Belleayre Mountain Ski Resort has several trails open as well.
Cross-country skiers can hit the trails at Mount Van Hoevenburg in Lake Placid and the North Creek Ski Bowl at Gore Mountain.
