1,200 lb. granite slab falls on worker
WHEATFIELD, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a man is hospitalized with injuries to his back and legs after a slab of granite weighing more than half a ton fell on him at a western New York company.
The Niagara County Sheriff's Office says a 24-year-old employee of the Granite Shop in the town of Wheatfield was helping to unload a 1,200-pound slab of granite Monday morning when it broke loose from its mount.
Deputies say the worker was able to jump partially out of the way but was knocked out when the slab pinned him. Emergency crews freed the man and took him to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo. Information on his condition hasn't been released.
The accident occurred at a business that makes granite kitchen countertops and cabinets.
