Wounded NYPD cop released from hospital

NEW YORK (AP) -- A New York City police officer who was wounded by gunfire in the stairwell of a public housing project is out of the hospital.

Officer Diara Cruz was released Wednesday from Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx. She was struck in the torso on Thursday night.

Officer Patrick Espeut, who was shot in the cheek, was discharged from the hospital on Friday.

Police say the gunman killed himself.
