NYPD investigating cop's shooting of family dog in Bronx

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - The NYPD says it is investigating the deadly shooting of a family dog by one of its officers inside an apartment building in the Bronx.

Video of the Feb. 13 incident was obtained by the NY Daily News.

The pitbull can be seen coming out of an apartment after the door is opened from the inside.

The dog, with its tail wagging, approaches the police officers. One of the officers walks backwards towards the stairs while drawing his gun.

The video stops with the officer pointing the gun and then picks up with a woman hovering over the dog in a pool of blood.

The woman, identified as Yvonne Rosado, is seen approaching the officers at the bottom of the staircase and attempting to slap one of them.

She is then subdued by the officers.

According to the NY Daily News, Rosado, who owned the dog named Spike, described the family pet as friendly.

“The officer just reacted badly,” said a teary Rosado. “I was screaming, ‘He’s friendly! He’s friendly!’ But he still did that to my dog.”

"The incident is being reviewed by our Force Investigation Division and the findings will be subject to a firearms discharge review board," said the NYPD in a statement issued Friday.

Rosado has filed a notice of claim about a lawsuit against the city and is reportedly planning to file a grievance against the officers with the city’s Civilian Complaint Review Board.
