Riders prepare for possible NJ Transit strike

New Jersey Transit riders are preparing for the worst with a possible strike looming in a few weeks. Some of the 295,000 daily commuters who rely on New Jersey Transit trains are making other plans.

Negotiations between rail worker unions and the agency stymied after weeks of talks. The sticking point: the possibility of higher health insurance premiums and wage increases for workers. The union hasn't a contract in about 5 years.

In a statement transit officials told Fox 5 the agency is "actively involved in developing an alternative service plan in the event the rail unions call a strike. ... We remain focused on reaching an affordable settlement with the unions for our customers."
