Oscar statuettes crafted in New York

- The Oscars are coming up later this month, and this guy will be the star of the show. He has been around since the 1920s, and now he is getting a facelift in New York. The Polich Tallix Fine Art Foundry in Rock Tavern is now responsible for crafting perhaps the most iconic trophy in the world: The Oscar.

The Academy decided to return to the Oscar's roots, bringing the manufacturing to New York for the first time while making subtle changes to the design after being produced in Chicago for the last 33 years.

The new statue is more faithful to details of original sculpture, including crafting it in bronze. And keeping it local, the gold plating process was done right in Brooklyn.

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, who represents this district, was particularly proud of this New York moment.

And on Oscar night, New York will continue to represent, when the Polich Tallix team attaches the names of the winners, having already engraved a nameplate for every nominee on the list.
