One year anniversary of deadly East Village Gas Explosion

Saturday marked one year since the deadly East Village gas explosion. Dozens gathered at the corner of 2nd Avenue and East 7th Street Saturday for a candle light vigil.

And earlier in the day, East Village residents and elected officials came together to commemorate the tragedy.

Two people died in the blast and more than 20 people were injured.

Officials say the explosion was caused by illegal gas tampering in the building.

Five people are facing criminal charges in connection with the blast.
