NYC reacts to violence, Trump comments on Charlottesville

Mayor de Blasio is one of the local leaders calling on President Trump to clearly condemn white supremacists.

Hundreds of New Yorkers who were outraged by the open display of race hate and violence in Charlottesville gathered in Brooklyn at Grand Army Plaza in a show of unity.

"Don't confuse peace with complacency. Confront racism,” said Jumaane Williams of the NY City Council.

Many are disappointed that there was not a clear and forceful condemnation from the Commander-in-Chief. That point was underscored at Federal Plaza in lower Manhattan.

In midtown, before marching in the annual Dominican Day Parade up Sixth Avenue, Mayor de Blasio weighed in on Charlottesville, taking a strong stand.

"This was an act of domestic terrorism against the very values of this nation," he said.

The mayor is calling upon the president to denounce the white supremacist threat, and he's reminding everyone that for years, their targets have often been members of law enforcement.
