New Yorker dies amid papaya Salmonella outbreak

A New Yorker has died from Salmonella connected to eating a certain brand of papayas.

Food safety officials said that there have been 47 cases nationwide where people contracted Salmonella after eating Caribena brand yellow Maradol papayas.

There have been 10 reported cases in New York City.

The FDA is working on a recall for the fruit.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have warned people not to eat, serve, or sell yellow Maradol papayas until they find out where the fruit came from.

People have also been advised to throw away the papaya if you come across it as well as sanitize countertops and drawers in refrigerators where papayas are stored.
