2 charged in robbery gone wrong where arm was severed

Both people involved in a bizarre botched robbery in Brooklyn have been arrested after the would-be robber's arm was torn off.

Police say 17-year-old Zachary Sam arranged to meet Phillippe Pierre to buy a pair of Air Jordan sneakers on Friday. But investigators say that when Sam was inside Pierre's SUV he pulled a gun and took the shoes.

Police say Pierre then ran the teen down with his car, pinning him against a fence and ripping his arm from his body.

Police said Saturday that Sam has been arrested on charges of robbery and criminal possession of a weapon. Pierre has been arrested on a charge of attempted murder.

Sam remains hospitalized.

Both are being held and it wasn't immediately clear whether they had attorneys who could comment on their arrests.
