Homeless man stabbed to death inside shelter

A homeless man allegedly stabbed another man to death inside a shelter Wednesday night, authorities said. It happened at the Boulevard on Lexington Avenue at about 11:30 p.m., police said.

Police confirmed a 62-year-old man died after having his throat slit. Cops are looking for his roommate: Anthony White, 22.

"It's deeply disturbing. We will get this perpetrator," Mayor Bill de Blasio said. "Something went wrong. We're going to do a full investigation to find out how this was possible. But we're very committed going forward, in that shelter and every other shelter, to making sure they have whatever it takes: the technology; the personnel to keep people safe. But this is very disturbing and we're going to get down to the bottom of it."

The de Blasio administration has increased funding for both security and mental health treatment at shelters, but homelessness as a whole continues to be a problem.
