Holiday House luxury rooms raise money for cancer research

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - Luxury townhouses in SoHo have been transformed into designer show houses. It's all for a charity event called Holiday House created by interior designer Iris Dankner.

"There were no events in my own industry, in the design industry, that benefited any women's issues," Iris said. "So, I decided to create an event that tied my two passions together. My passion for eradicating this disease and my love of interior design."

Iris is a 19-year breast cancer survivor and donates the proceeds of this event to cancer research.

"I vowed after all of my surgeries that I would do whatever I could to spread awareness and educate young women how important early detection is, so nobody would have to go through what I went through," she said.

The public can come in and explore these one-of-a-kind living spaces.

"I think it's fantastic what they've done with these room. It's so unique. Each room has a theme and an identity to it. The fact that it's for this benefit is fantastic," Richard Demarco, project architect, said.

"It gives viewers the palate of possibilities which can end up taking place from designs which are more subdued and understated and those which are more vibrant and active," Richard Cohen, project architect, said.

The rooms are inspired by holidays or days that have personal meaning to each of the twenty different designers.

While walking through some of these rooms you may actually find items that you want to purchase. Some of them will be for sale and the proceeds from those sales will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Along with charity, Iris hopes visitors find inspiration.

"I always feel if they walk out of here with one interesting idea, then it's a success," she said.

Holiday House will be open through January 8, 2017.
