GoPro recalls drones after crashes

NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - Camera maker GoPro has started a recall of all of its drones after reports of power losses during operation.  The Karma drones were sold online and at Best Buy.  They were the company's first entry into the drone market.

GoPro says the recall was announced after the problem was discovered in what it called "a small number of cases".  The company says it is investigating the issue and working in close coordination with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Federal Aviation Administration. 

The drones went on sale late last month for about $800.  Bundles with a camera topped $1,000.  The company says it is offering full refunds.

The drone itself weighs just over two pounds and can travel 35 MPH.

The company is warning all owners to stop using the drone immediately, even if it had been functioning normally.

There have been no injuries reported with the falling drones but people have been posting online videos of their drones plunging from the skies.

The company says it plans to start shipping new versions of the drone after it corrects the problem.  It did not give any timetable for that to happen.
