Fresh Kid Ice of 2 Live Crew dead at 53, reports TMZ

Fresh Kid Ice, one of the founding members of the legendary rap group 2 Live Crew, has died in Miami, according to celebrity gossip site TMZ.com.

The entertainer was a pioneer as one of the first Asian rappers of influence.

Fresh Kid Ice, whose real name is Chris Wong Won, died at 7:50 AM Thursday in a Miami hospital  due to a medical condition.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force for four years, Fresh Kid Ice went on to form the controversial group which churned out explicit hits like "Me So Horny" and "Throw the D."

The album,"As Nasty As They Wanna Be," released in 1989, became the first album to ever be deemed legally obscene by the United States government.

Fresh Kid was arrested in 1990 after a show with 2 Live Crew because police determined their performance was obscene and lewd.

After 2 Live Crew split, Fresh Kid went on to found his own label, Chinaman Records.
