Donations raised for Iraq war veteran attacked at McDonald's

NEW YORK - Donations are pouring in for an Iraq war veteran who was attacked and robbed at a Washington, D.C. McDonald's.

Christopher Marquez, 30, says he was eating in a back corner of the restaurant when a group of teens and young men approached his table and began harassing him. 

The group allegedly asked Marquez, who was awarded a Bronze Star for his service, whether "black lives matter" and then called him a racist. 

Marquez says that when he left the restaurant, one of the perpetrators hit him in the head, knocking him unconscious.  Security footage shows the group then stole his money and wallet.

Marquez is a student at American University. 

A Connecticut man started a GoFundMe page to raise money for Marquez.  As of Monday afternoon, almost 500 people had donated more than $20,000.

Danny Amoruccio, a retired funeral director in southwest Connecticut, started the fundraiser for Marquez.

Amoruccio says "My heart went out to him and the least we can do as Americans is help him, as he helped to keep US safe."

Police have arrested two people in connection with the attack.  The investigation continues.
