Feds find cruise ship deserter on train bound for NYC

Federal officers worked to track down a crew member who deserted his cruise ship in Louisiana and then hopped a train bound for New York.

A Carnival cruise official alerted U.S. Customs and Border Protection that crew member Gentian Kurdina, 23, an Albanian national, never returned to one of the company's ships docked at the Port of New Orleans on May 21.

After an investigation, CBP officers responded to an Amtrak train in Atlanta that had arrived from New Orleans and was heading to New York City. The officers boarded the Amtrak train late Tuesday, found Kurdina, and took him into custody.

The officers then escorted Kurdina onto a flight home, authorities said.
