Body accidentally cremated, remains misplaced

A horrible mix-up involving several funeral homes has left a grieving family in even more pain. They say their mother's remains have been lost. At first, she was accidentally cremated. And then her remains were misplaced.

"It's horrible.  It's devatating," Keri Pocelli, Rivera's daughter-in-law says.

A funeral home in Nutley was hired to handle the funeral for Consuela Rivera.  According to a lawsuit by Rivera's family, a company was called to move her body to a New York City funeral home.

The family got a call on Easter Sunday saying she had been cremated but they claim they were given the run around when trying to retrieve her remains.

They say they were first given an urn with the ashes of another person and then given the ashes of a second person.

It has now been nearly 3 weeks since their mother's death and the Rivera family still hasn't found her body.

The worst part of it all, they say, is they haven't had a chance to say goodbye. They are suing all three funeral homes for extreme negligence.
