Arrests in hit-and-run of NYPD officer

Two men have been arrested in connection with hitting a police officer in Times Square.

The incident took place just before midnight on Saturday, January 13. A uniformed police officer, who has not been identified, was on foot and trying to stop a Mercedes that had been driving recklessly.

The driver ignored the officer and hit him before fleeing the location, traveling westbound from 42 Street to 8 Avenue.

The officer sustained non-life threatening injuries to his legs and back and he was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in stable condition.

Police say they arrested Arfhy Santos, 20, and William Lopez, 24. Police say both men are members of a Bronx car club and have prior arrests.
