Condolences pour in for murdered journalists

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Reporter Alison Parker and Photojournalist Adam Ward, the victims of a live television shooting in Virginia,  had a lot in common. The TV journalists are being remembered as rising stars in the industry. Both were from Virginia, and had internships at the station they eventually worked for when they were killed on Wednesday.

WDBJ7 TV in Roanoke describes Parker, a reporter, as "smart and dedicated to her work." Ward was a "dedicated photographer who would go the extra mile to get the job done."

The duo worked together every morning. They were reporting Wednesday at about 6:45 am when they were shot and killed by former disgruntled employee, Vester Flanagan.

Parker was dating the 6 p.m. news anchor Chris Hurst and Ward was engaged to morning show producer Melissa Otto.

Condolences have poured in to the station from people around the world via social media. Even President Barack Obama shared his sentiments over their deaths:

"It breaks my heart every time you read or hear about these kinds of incidents. What we know is that the number of people who die from gun-related incidents around this country dwarfs any deaths that happen through terrorism," Obama told ABC News.

Messages have flooded the Facebook page for WDBJ7. The station posted videos and stories about the journalists ranging from looks at their professional lives covering serious stories to fun moments on-air.

"Your words, calls, emails mean more than we can express. A very sincere thank you for your support," reads a post.
