Hip hop DJs Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito

Two of the most influential people in the early days of hip-hop weren't making the music, they were playing it. DJs Adrian "Stretch Armstrong" Bartos and Robert "Bobbito" Garcia helped give birth to hip hop's golden age.

More than 20 years after they first filled the airwaves, not much has changed. I caught up with the curators of culture at a screening for their new film "Radio That Changed Lives" at the Samsung Experience in the Meatpacking District.

The documentary is a living testimony: two guys, humble and hungry to feed their passion for a genre of music that would transcend.

From 1990 to 1998 their show was king, arguably the most influential duo to never drop an album. No, they weren't MCs. They were the vehicle that made them all household names. It was raw, it was authentic, it was fun.

In the process Stretch sent the template for DJs, and Bobbito highlighted the music's marketability.
