Woman attacked, raped in Brooklyn park

Police in New York are looking for a man wanted for a horrific series of sexual attacks on a woman in a Brooklyn park.

It happened about 4 a.m. on Sunday November 18 in Prospect Park.  The NYPD says a man approached a 59-year-old woman from behind in the area of Parkside Avenue and Parade Place.  He put her in a chokehold and warned that he had a knife and gun and would hurt her if she didn't comply with his demands.

They say he then shoved her against a parked van and tried to sexually assault her but he was unable to do so. He then dragged her behind a bench and raped her. After the attack he broke the window of a parked van and forced the victim inside where he tried to sexually assault her once more.

When he was unable to do so he removed $10 from her purse and told her to get out of the van. He then ran away on foot eastbound on Parkside Avenue.

He is described as black, 25 to 35 years old, 5'10" to 6'0", medium build; last seen wearing a shiny dark colored hooded bubble coat, a dark colored knit cap, dark colored pants and white sneakers.

Police are also looking for the vehicle in which the attack took place.  It is described as a white Ford Econoline van with a green and white logo on its side.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS. Police say that all calls are strictly confidential.
