Don't be fooled: Synthetic marijuana is deadly and contains no pot, experts say

A powerful drug referred to a synthetic marijuana is no such thing, according to health experts.

Dr. Scott Bienenfeld helps run The Recovery Spot, an outpatient addiction center in Gramercy. He is warning marijuana users to stay away from so-called synthetic marijuana, which isn't marijuana at all. He explained that the drug is made in a lab from a dangerous mix of toxic chemicals.

Recently, more than 80 people in New Haven, Connecticut, were in a zombie-like state after overdosing on synthetic marijuana, also known as K2 or spice, which is not made from pot.

Dr. Bienenfeld said that K2 can be laced with fentanyl, rat poison, and other dangerous substances. He said that you have no idea what you are getting.

The term synthetic marijuana is all about marketing. Experts say that marijuana is the most common drug used by teenagers and young adults.so calling it synthetic marijuana makes potential users the drug is marijuana.

But no matter how it smells or tastes, it is not marijuana.
