'Haunted' subway terrifies New York

Just when you thought public transportation couldn't get any more terrifying, the Haunted Subway in Union Square took your horrific commute to a whole new level. Subway riders were treated to a haunted house within the subway station.

The first annual Haunted Subway was also free of charge, thanks to donations from local businesses as well as roughly 30 ghastly volunteers from the NYPD and the MTA, who teamed up for the fun Halloween-themed event for the community.

An estimated 6,000 people "rode" the Haunted Subway so if the line and the screams were any indication, the two-day event was a scary success.
