3 dead dogs found in SUV; owner arrested

Police officers on Long Island responded to a call about several dogs locked inside a parked SUV on Tuesday morning.

Suffolk County cops found six rottweilers inside cages in a 1998 Ford Explorer that was parked on Montauk Highway in Shirley. Three of the dogs were dead.

Authorities brought the three surviving dogs to the Brookhaven Town Animal Shelter for evaluation, police said. Officers determined the dogs had been inside the Ford for more than 11 hours.

Cops arrested Carmine Dapruzzo, 41, the owner of the dogs, and charged him with animal cruelty under the New York State Agriculture and Markets Law. He will be arraigned at a later date, police said.
