Border agents find 18 illegal aliens inside truck cabin

NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - Border Patrol agents in Texas found 18 South American illegal aliens hidden inside the sleeper cabin of a tractor-trailer during an immigration inspection on Interstate 35.

The truck was at a border patrol checkpoint on Aug. 21. A canine alerted agents that there might be something suspicious in the truck and it was diverted to a U.S. Border Patrol secondary checkpoint.

The Laredo Sector agents discovered the 18 hidden illegals during the check. They were found in good health and identified as being from the countries of Mexico and Guatemala.

The driver, a United States citizen who was not identified, was arrested and the tractor-trailer was seized by Border Patrol. It was unclear what charges the driver was facing.

Homeland Security Investigations was continuing to investigate.
