Coastal flooding reported across Tristate

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - A coastal flood advisory is in effect for New York City, Long Island, and parts of New Jersey Tuesday. Flooding was reported along the Jersey Shore and Long Island.

Authorities warn that travel conditions could be treacherous in some areas on Tuesday, so motorists were being urged to allow extra travel time or avoid travel if possible.

"Minor to locally moderate coastal flooding is expected with [tonight's] high tide cycles," the National Weather Service said. "Minor to locally moderate coastal flooding is possible with Wednesday morning high tide cycle."

The NWS warned that coastal flooding affects vulnerable shore roads and basements.

"A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore," the NWS said.

Snow could continue on and off until early Wednesday. But when the heaviest bands of snow may fall is still unclear.
