Giants cut punter Steve Weatherford

The NY Giants announced Friday that Pittsburgh Steelers punter Brad Wing would be replacing veteran Steve Weatherford. The 32-year-old was plagued last season with back and ankle problems. He spent the last four of his 11 years in the NFL with the Giants. The moves came days after coach Tom Coughlin suggested neither Weatherford nor free agent Robert Malone would be his punter this season. His release will save the team money. Weatherford was to earn $3.075 million, while Wing, a former teammate of Odell Beckham Jr., at LSU will get $510,000.

Wing, originally from Melbourne, Australia, punted in all 16 regular-season games for the Steelers last season.
