Preparing to run up the Empire State Building

- A special training session was held at the Empire State Building Monday. World-class athletes were here to prepare for the 39th annual Empire State Building Run Up which is scheduled for this Wednesday.

Over 200 participants from around the world will race up 86 floors to the top of the iconic building on 34th Street. Among them is paratriathlete Patty Collins who had her leg amputated after being hit by a car. Joe Polwrek has been preparing for at work. Today's pre-event training session was a welcome experience for endurance athlete KC Kennedy.

These athletes are training to climb 1,576 steps. Yours truly will also be taking the long way up to the top of the building. This will be my first run up to the top of the Empire State Building. Apparently, I'm not alone.

Last year I climbed to the top of the World Trade Center. So it was up to this veteran stair climber to offer some coaching to the first timers. We'll find out if they take my advice this Wednesday night!
