Family and beginner-friendly Shawnee Mountain is pleased to announce several improvements over the summer season to enhance its ski and snowboarding facilities for winter snow sports.
New Parks, New Location
Shawnee loyal Freestylers will have totally new terrain parks to play in this season. It’s a big move –the Bushkill Park has been retired and Shawnee has moved its top to bottom new freestyle terrain park to the 4000’ Delaware Trail, a location which provides easy access from the Tomahawk Express Quad Lift. Designed by a terrain park veteran specialist, the new Delaware Park promises a quicker opening with high powered snowmaking and better flow for riders and skiers of all levels. The lower section of the new Delaware Park will host a new “Jib Plaza” with multiple rails and boxes, a great place to hike, hangout and perfect your skills. The Country Club Trail will also have its former Incubator Park redesigned and plans call for both new parks to be chocked full of signature jib features along with step over jumps for creative airtime! The 3000’ Bushkill Trail will open this winter as Shawnee’s widest intermediate trail: great for top to bottom carving and cruising.
Snowmaking Improvements Continue
It all starts with dependable snow conditions throughout each winter season. And as part of a multi-year, multi-million dollar snowmaking upgrade project, for the 2017-18 ski season over 5000 feet of new snowmaking pipe has been installed on the Delaware and Country Club trails. The Snowmaking systems on both these trails will be fully automated this season which promises a quick opening of both of Shawnee’s new terrain parks. And a large Centac electric compressor has been added to the snowmaking system which will greatly enhance Shawnee’s snowmaking efficiency at marginal snowmaking temperatures.
New Rental Equipment
Adding to an already impressive ski and rental facility, for 2017-18 Shawnee Mountain has purchased 500 pair of new Elan skis, 200 new Flow and Rossignol snowboards and 200 new Giro helmets. The Shawnee Mountain Rental Shop, one of the largest in the USA, is able to outfit over 4000 skiers/snowboarders.
