Summertime means family time. But you’re probably wondering about which city can make for the best summer family vacation. Don’t worry — here’s our roundup of seven of the most family friendly cities in the US. Happy travels!
Enjoy the breeze this summer in the Windy City! Top activities include The Field Museum, which houses the world’s largest and best-preserved T-Rex remains; the giant Ferris wheel at Navy Pier; catching a Cubs baseball game at Wrigley Field, and checking out the view from the Skydeck on the 103rd floor of the Willis Tower. And, of course, for growing kids with hearty appetites, there are world famous hot dogs at Portillo’s, deep dish pizzas at Lou Malnati’s, and oh so many more delicious local options.
Everything truly is bigger in Texas! Houston‘s Museum District is home to 19 museums and cultural attractions all located within a mile and a half of the city’s Mecom Fountain. If that’s not enough to keep your family flat out for your entire vacation, there’s Space Center Houston, the city’s highly rated zoo, and all sorts of outdoor activities to pursue. Houston is a cosmopolitan hub for world-class shopping and dining as well – good to keep in mind if the grown-ups in your group start to get restless.
Las Vegas, Nevada
Shows, shopping, pools, and attractions galore are but a few reasons that Las Vegas is a safe bet for summer fun with your family. Whether you’re plummeting from the skies while strapped into rides like the Big Apple Coaster, the Big Shot, the Desperado or the High Roller (the world’s largest observation wheel), or catching a copter ride over the Grand Canyon, Vegas is a great base for a thrilling and memorable family vacation.
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
With 60 miles of sandy beaches and a decidedly family oriented attitude toward having a good time, this South Carolina resort town presents an especially hospitable choice for an all-ages getaway. Practically all hotels and the vast majority of attractions are kid-friendly by design. Thrill rides, watersports, and simply playing in the sand and surf – all at refreshingly affordable prices compared to other seaside destinations – are the key ingredients to a great Myrtle Beach vacation.
There’s no need to elaborate too much about why Orlando’s on our list of family-friendly cities. With the Magic Kingdom and Universal Orlando being two of the biggest theme parks in and around town, it remains one of the best places to vacation with kids. Plus, the number of all-inclusive family vacation packages makes planning your trip there super convenient. You just can’t go wrong with this Florida city that’s built on making family dreams come true.
San Diego, California
Visitors to San Diego are all but guaranteed plenty of sunshine and comfortable temperatures during their stay. Plus, there’s the top-rated San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, and beautiful Balboa Park with its many museums, as well as easy access to a great stretch of southern California coastline to explore. It’s hard to beat San Diego if you’re craving some sunny fun with your loved ones.
The nation’s capital is an awesome destination for families interested in learning about America’s unique history. Most of Washington D.C.’s many museums and monuments are free to visit and nearly everywhere you turn there’s something of historic significance to see. Incredibly diverse and vibrant though also super safe and fairly compact, it’s a great city for discovering what most excites your imagination.
