Woman slashed in face on subway train

A woman riding the subway with her 18-month-old child was slashed on a subway train near Grand Central Terminal.

The 31-year-old victim was on a 5 train around 11 a.m. Sunday when she was attacked by a stranger.  She suffered a head wound and was taken to Bellevue Hospital.  The child was not hurt in the attack.

53-year-old Jacqueline Sanjurjo of the Bronx was taken into custody and charged assault and weapons charges.

The attack was apparently unprovoked and Sanjuro allegedly didn't say anything when she walked up to the victim with a knife and slashed her.  The victim was taken out of the subway on a stretcher with bloody dressings covering her head.

Sanjurojo mumbled as she was taken away from the train station by police.

It is unclear what led to the incident.
