Woman robbed in tanning bed

A woman was robbed while she was tanning at a facility on Long Island.  Nassau County police say that it happened Wednesday morning in Massapequa and they made an arrest on Friday.

Police say that at about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, William Neal, 30, of Central Islip went into the Xsport Fitness at Sunrise Mall in Massapequa.

He had previously been told by management that he was no longer allowed on the property but he used a false name.

Police say that he went into a tanning booth room and hid behind the equipment.  When a 52-year-old woman walked into the room and got into the tanning bed he came out of hiding and attempted to take her things.

The woman confronted Neal and police say he pushed her down.  She sustained a large contusion and substantial pain to her right upper arm.

Police say Neal then ran away.  They arrested him at 12:45 a.m. on Friday at the Planet Fitness on South Broadway in Hicksville.

Neal is charged with assault, burglary, petit larceny and criminal trespass.  He was to be arraigned on Friday in Hempstead.
