Winning Mega Millions ticket sold on Long Island

Someone on Long Island is ringing in 2019 as a millionaire. One ticket matched all five numbers, plus the Mega Ball, in Tuesday night's $437 million drawing, according to the Mega Millions website.

The ticket was purchased at Brookville Auto Service Shop in Glen Head, Nassau County. Shop owner Jay Huang said this is the first time he has sold a big winner. He sees a lot of locals on a daily basis and wonders who it could be. He will receive a $10,000 commission.

"Especially New Year's Day, after Christmas, beginning a new year, a lot of parties around here," Huang said. "Maybe someone stopped by the gas, buy Lotto, a couple of dollars."

Seven other players won at least $1 million after matching all but the Mega Ball: three winners in New York, and one each in Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, and Pennsylvania.

The lucky winner in New York can choose a cash option of $262 million. After taxes, they will get a check for $165 million.

Officials said it is the second time the jackpot has been won on New Year's Day. The last time was in Texas in 2008.

The winning numbers were 34, 44, 57, 62, 70 and Mega Ball 14. The jackpot resets to $40 million, or $23.9 million in cash. The next drawing is Friday.

The Mega Millions winner for the $1.5 billion jackpot from October still has not come forward to claim the prize. The winning ticket was sold in South Carolina.
