Whole Foods store with discounted brands opens in Brooklyn

Calling all health nuts on a budget. Whole Foods Market 365 is about to open in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Fox 5 got a sneak peek of what's in store.

Store manager Kelvin Abdulla says the new supermarket is a curated mix of Whole Foods Market products in a value-driven environment. The famous in-store brand 365 is offered, but so are a handful of other affordable brands.

"Not only do we have this emphasis on cost, but also for special diets that consumers may have, and items that you typically only find at a Whole Foods Market we throw that in the mix as well," Abdulla says.

This store will be the eighth Whole Foods 365 to open nationally and the first on the East Coast.

Abdulla says the company chose Fort Greene because of location, location, location.

"We're in the heart of Brooklyn right now—literally the Barclays Center is about a few steps away along with Atlantic Terminal, one of the busiest terminals in New York City," he said. "So the neighborhood, the community—everybody wants this and that's why we're here."

The market is on the bottom floor of a café where local brands like Orwashers serve baked goods to people on the go.

"I think it gives the consumer another reason to shop here," said Keith Cohen, the president of Orwashers.

Whole Foods 365 officially opens to customers at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
