'What We're Up Against' tackles gender politics

- "What We're Up Against" is a new play coming to the WP Theater. With a roster of recognizable talent, the play is a dark comedy that tackles the issue of gender politics in the workplace, in this case, an architectural firm dominated by its male employees.

The cast includes Skylar Astin, Marg Helgenberger, Jim Parrack, Krysta Rodriguez, and Damian Young.

For Skylar Astin, who skyrocketed to fame on the musically-driven "Pitch Perfect" franchise, this play presents a unique opportunity. He says he is excited to do a play with no singing.

And for the entire cast, there are elements of relatability in a script that transcends gender.

Helgenberger said even though the play is set in 1992, things really haven't advanced that much in terms of how women are treated.

What we're up against was written by award-winning playwright Theresa Rebeck who approaches gender inequality from a unique point of view. She said the best comedy leaves blood on the floor.

"What We're Up Against" runs from October 28 through November 26 at the WP Theater on Broadway and West 76th Street. For tickets just go to wptheater.org.
